What does life outside the studio look like for you?

Life for me outside the studio consists of urban living on the peninsula with my husband and 3 year old havanese pup named Lexi. This tends to include a lot of yoga, dog walks, chai lattes and craft beer. My family and friends mean the world to me and I’m typically the social planner always seeking out and signing us up for the next adventure. I am big on travel and the great outdoors spending as much time as I can outside either running on road or trail, hiking, camping, golfing and drinking on patios 🙂 I’m an Engineer by day with Emera and I’ve spent the last 5 years on the Maritime Link Project.

What are you watching/listening to?

Music literally fuels me with my preferences ranging from indie chill to hip hop/dance or rock – the genre just depends on my current or desired mood. I sit at my desk most days listening to music and then walk in my house and crank up the speakers while my husband and I cook dinner. Music is always playing during my yoga classes and I love creating new playlists. I’m also no stranger to DJ’ing the late night dance parties. You can find anything from the Black Keys to Drake on my playlists. So long story short – I kind of love music!
I’ve also been getting into podcasts lately – exploring anything from Oprah’s Supersoul conversations, Mindbodygreen and the Ladygang.

What do few people know about you?

That I can be pretty competitive. Just kidding…everyone knows that. I’m a pretty open book!

What lifts you up about the community at the studios?

There is something pretty special about the North end community in Halifax and it’s places like Rio/Rogue that have helped to build this supportive bond in our community. It’s amazing to have all of these people coming together at the studio with a common desire to better ourselves through health and wellness, to share these experiences and create connections. I’m happy to be part of it.

What are you fave classes to attend?

This is a tough one to answer because frankly every class at Rio/Rogue appeals to me in some way or another. I love the Heavily Meditated yoga classes for their blend of power & strength mixed with softness & ease – the perfect recipe. And I also love Rio Fusion – a muscle-burning, ass-kicking yoga class! And Pilates is giving me a whole new appreciation for the strength in subtlety. But it’s not just yoga for me; I was a competitive athlete growing up and yoga came later in life. I still love to challenge my body with cardio box, circuit and tower classes – so empowering and humbling at the same time!

What is your life mantra?

The sun will rise and fall regardless, what you decide to do with the light while it’s here is up to you.
